About me
Curiosity, research and a commitment to making knowledge useful.
I’m Elia Maniscalco, a design researcher and innovation strategist working across academia and industry.

My background
Connecting different worlds through design.
Elia Maniscalco, PhD, is a design researcher, innovation strategist and educator working at the intersection of academia and industry. His practice focuses on bridging knowledge and practice through design, combining research, strategic thinking and experimentation to address complex challenges and translate insights into practical outcomes.
With over 15 years of international experience, his professional background spans strategic design, digital product development, learning experience design, consulting and organisational innovation. He has held leadership positions in international education and technology organisations, including Re, Skills Union and RED Academy, where he led multidisciplinary teams, developed educational programmes and contributed to the evolution of learning methodologies and delivery models.
Elia holds a PhD in Architecture, Arts and Planning from the University of Palermo. His doctoral research, New Design Craft, investigated hybrid design practices emerging from the intersection of traditional craftsmanship, contemporary technologies and socio-environmental sustainability. Through qualitative research, fieldwork and design experimentation, his work explored how these practices contribute to new forms of knowledge production, cultural continuity and more responsible approaches to design.
Alongside his professional activities, he contributes to university teaching and applied research, with a particular interest in cultural heritage, visual communication and the relationship between design and territory.
He is the founder of Senseforming, an independent research and innovation practice connecting academic knowledge with industry challenges and practical applications.

The idea behind Senseforming
Understanding is only the beginning.
Senseforming reflects an approach to design that begins with curiosity and critical inquiry, then moves towards experimentation and practical application.
It is about creating the conditions for new possibilities to emerge, connecting different forms of knowledge and turning insights into responses that can be tested, refined and implemented.
